Flights from Great Britain are no longer allowed to land in Hamburg. A new form of the coronavirus had been discovered there. The day before, three passenger planes landed at Hamburg Airport.
Since midnight, aircraft from Great Britain have been banned from landing in Hamburg. A version of the corona virus was found there that is said to be more contagious than before. Before that, however, three planes with passengers from London landed at Hamburg Airport on Sunday. The last one arrived around 10 p.m. Unlike in the cities of Berlin or Frankfurt, no passengers had to spend the night at the airport.
Of the passengers who entered, seven people have apparently tested positive for the corona virus, as confirmed by the federal police. “These were rapid tests in which the passengers tested positive,” said a spokeswoman for t-online. “That doesn’t mean it’s the mutated virus.” The entry regulations in the corona pandemic already stipulate that all passengers must report to the health department and then go into quarantine.
The federal police would have set up a kind of mini-test track with the social welfare authorities and medical care at the airport on Sunday, where travelers from London could undergo a quick test. The tests were not required, it said. Some of the passengers had already had negative corona tests with them.
According to the Hamburg health authority, there is still no confirmed corona case with the mutated version in Hamburg, a spokesman said in the morning for the NDR. Therefore it was too early for consequences, it said.
Virus detected in a new version
According to initial findings by British scientists, the corona variant recently discovered in south-east England is up to 70 percent more contagious than the previously known form. The Federal Ministry of the Interior therefore instructed the Federal Police on Sunday to systematically check travelers from Great Britain and South Africa with immediate effect.
