The Government of the United Kingdom has confirmed this Monday that the new variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Gibraltar, where precisely the restrictions have been reinforced after the rebound in infections detected during the last week.
The variant supposedly originated in England has led to a cascade of restrictions in countries around the world and, in the case of Spain, flights from the United Kingdom will be limited so that only Spanish citizens or residents can enter.
The new strain has already been detected in other countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands and Australia, while a Downing Street spokesperson confirmed on Monday that at least one case has been detected in Gibraltar, reports the Sky News network.
El Peñón has registered a rebound in infections in the last week and the Government has urged families to avoid taking their children to class this Monday and Tuesday. In addition, visits to nursing homes for the elderly have also been banned, a “very sad and very tough” measure, as recognized by the chief minister, Fabian Picardo: “We have no choice.”
