Göttingen University President says goodbye live on YouTube

The University of Göttingen bids farewell to its President Prof. Reinhard Jahn after a 13-month term with a Celebration event in the auditorium at Wilhelmsplatz. However, guests can attend the celebration on Tuesday, December 22nd, due to the Corona-Pandemie not participate. The event will therefore be broadcast live on the university’s YouTube channel from 3 p.m.

Dr. Valérie Schüller, University Vice President for Finance and Human Resources, should greet the guests. According to the university, speeches are also planned by Prof. Peter straw cutter, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of University of Göttingen, and Björn Thümler, Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture.

Greetings from Prof. Nicolai Miosge, Speaker of the Senate of University of Göttingen, and Prof. Wolfgang Brück, speaker of the board of the university medicine Göttingen. Jahn the event itself should end with a speech of its own.

Schüller takes over office provisionally

Reinhard Jahn, Born in 1950, is a neurobiologist and director emeritus at Göttingen Max Planck Institute for biophysical chemistry. He is an honorary professor and alumnus of University of Göttingen, where he studied biology and chemistry and also did his doctorate.

From 1997 to 2019 he was director at Max Planck Institute for biophysical chemistry in Göttingen. He took up the office of university president on December 1, 2019. The University of Göttingen is currently in the selection process for his successor. Takes over until a new president takes office Valérie Schüller the office provisionally.
