【Youth Daily】 After 5 months of labor, GM Korea actually completed wage and collective bargaining (recruitment negotiations), passing the worst hurdle with the conclusion of the wage and collective bargaining agreement within this year.
Accordingly, GM Korea is expected to accelerate the normalization of its management to recover production losses caused by industrial activities such as partial strikes.
The National Metal Workers’ Union, GM Korea Branch, announced that as a result of voting for and against the provisional agreement on the temporary agreement with 7304 members on the 17th and 18th, the approval rate was counted at 54.1%.
In the future, only formal procedures such as labor-management signing ceremonies remain, so in effect, the agreement was concluded within this year.
GM Korea’s labor and management started the main negotiations for the collective bargaining agreement on July 22nd, and negotiated for five months. The union had a total of 26 negotiations with the company, but showed differences of opinion on the negotiation proposal and held a partial strike for a total of 15 days.
On the 25th of last month, the two sides had tentatively agreed on this year’s collective bargaining negotiations, but the agreement was rejected with a vote of 45.1% in the members’ votes.
Afterwards, the union held additional negotiations and re-established a second provisional agreement with the addition of the contents that GM Korea will withdraw the damages lawsuit filed against the union on the 10th.
Most of the contents of the previous agreement were retained, including the provision that the company will pay a total of 4 million won, including a lump sum and bonus of 3 million won per member and a special encouragement of 1 million won over the crisis of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
GM Korea has a policy of speeding up the normalization of management as it is possible to conclude the labor union within this year.
GM Korea made a stand right after the approval and said, “I am happy to be able to finalize the labor-management negotiations within this year.” “We will continue to carry out the business normalization plan in the future.”
However, it will take some time to recover due to the labor union’s dispute resulting in a production loss of 25,000 units, disrupting the supply of exports, and decreasing sales volume.
The combined production loss of 60,000 units caused by the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in the first half of this year will increase to 85,000 units. This is equivalent to 20% of the total sales of GM Korea last year.
According to the Korea Automobile Industry Association, GM Korea’s automobile production last month decreased by 45.7% from last year due to the strike.
On the other hand, the Kia Motors union, which had a partial strike for 4 consecutive weeks until this day, is expected to negotiate one more time with the management on the 21st and then set guidelines for the struggle.
The Kia Motors union held 15 main negotiations with the management after the first meeting in August, but failed to close the disagreement and held a partial strike for a total of 14 days. The resulting production loss is estimated to be about 45,000 units.
Renault Samsung Motors urged the union on the 17th to enter into the main bargaining for wages and collective bargaining this year. In addition, the union is protesting against the sale of the TS maintenance project in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, and is holding a one-man demonstration.
For Renault Samsung Motors, the current negotiations were in a stalemate after the sixth working-level negotiations between labor and management in September, and since the head of the union leader Park Jong-gyu is classified as strong, it is expected to sharply confront the management in the negotiations.
