Philippines.- At least two people die in a tropical storm in the Philippines

MANILA, 19 Dic. (EP / DPA) –

At least two people have died in the Philippines due to floods and landslides caused by a storm in the archipelago, as reported by the Police this Saturday.

The tropical storm, locally called ‘Vicky’, has unleashed winds with a sustained speed of 45 kilometers per hour and peaks of up to 55 kilometers per hour, the meteorological agency has assured.

Heavy rains have hit the eastern and southern Philippines since Friday.

In the eastern province of Leyte, two elderly people have been victims of a landslide in the town of Mahaplag, where a minor was rescued.

Another landslide has occurred in a gold mine in the town of Monkayo, in the province of Davao de Oro, while floods were recorded in the vicinity of the province of Agusan del Sur.

According to the meteorological agency, ‘Vicky’ should leave the Philippines this Sunday, but will continue to leave rains in the north and west of the country.

Authorities have asked residents to prepare for a weekend of heavy rains and local governments to stockpile supplies and prepare for future evacuations.
