The Pupaclown project was cooked for five years and had to overcome the challenge of the 2008 crisis. It was achieved thanks to the efforts of its promoters and the support of anonymous institutions and citizens. The Scenic Center for Child and Youth Social Integration celebrated a few days ago – last Friday the 11th – the tenth anniversary of its inauguration. The Murcian space, located in the San Basilio neighborhood, was presented to the public a month earlier, on November 5, 2010, at a joint press conference of the members of the Pupaclown Foundation and the then Minister of Culture and Mayor of Murcia , Pedro Alberto Cruz and Miguel Ángel Cámara, which was also attended by the manager of the Cajamurcia Foundation, Pascual Martínez.
With this act they unveiled “a theater designed from the ground up for children and young people” that accommodated people with and without disabilities in a space free of architectural barriers and with a capacity for 370 spectators. The center, inaugurated with the show ‘The snake woman’s circus’, by the Ananda Danza company, was opened in two phases. For the second, LA VERDAD launched the LV Solidarios campaign in which a fortnight of faces known as Miguel Ríos and Pepa Aniorte participated in order to obtain financial support to complete the project, which had yet to prepare its workshop and office area and a theater room for babies. The works began in the summer of 2011. Three years ago, the Pupaclown Foundation received the National Award for Performing Arts for Children and Young People for their work as hospital clowns and for having contributed to «favoring inclusion, diversity and coexistence »From its scenic center.
