Students of IES Professor Isidoro Sánchez, located in the neighborhood of Nuevo San Andrés (Málaga), tomorrow they will interview live George Shminky, maquillador de Strange Things. The characterization is a fundamental piece in this series, which tells the story of a group of friends in the 80s who run into the threat of monsters that come from another dimension.
The event, which will last approximately one hour, can be followed by ‘streaming’ through the YouTube channel, from 7:30 p.m. (10.30 am in Los Angeles, from where you will be attended), at the following address: https://youtu.be/W-7Ng9qxpd4
Through an application, the organizers will carry out this broadcast, which will have television format. In front of it, there will be six students, who will be in charge of the realization, presentation and follow-up on the questions for an hour what the audience formulates through a chat to transmit them to the makeup artist, who will answer them live and in Spanish, given their Puerto Rican origin.
This initiative is part of the project ‘visible FP, quality FP’ of Personal Image, which this past February took them to Los Angeles under the name ‘A movie FP, Hollywood project’.Patricia Santos, teacher of Training and Labor Orientation, who teaches two transversal modules (Entrepreneurship and Training and Labor Orientation) in the Higher Degree Cycle of Professional Characterization and Makeup, thus wanted to motivate the students, who saw in other great film specialists that they can be a professional in this sector and that his work had visibility.
They organized activities of all kinds to pay for the trip and for months, Santos, who was recognized two years ago as Best Vocational Training teacher in Spain Upon being the winner of the Educa Abanca Awards, she dedicated herself to contacting production companies and makeup schools to learn about this branch of cinema from within. «They opened the doors to us Warner Bross, Universal Studio, Sony Picture y Paramount Picture and in the two great Hollywood film makeup schools, where they were given a master class. It was after sending thousands of emails, but we also had a bit of luck, “he admits.
The students lived an “unforgettable experience” during the nine days that the trip lasted, but Patricia Santos brought with her many contacts; one of them the George Shminky, whom they met when they visited Hollywood’s professional makeup school on the Walk of Fame. Although he is currently working on the series Stranger Things, Shminky also He has participated in blockbusters such as Star War, Star Trek or The Walking Dead. “He taught there and after introducing us, I kept his card. When I contacted him this course, he showed his disposition from the beginning with great kindness. Of course, he does not charge us anything and he has not prevented the previous rehearsals that the students have organized; He has been incredible.
This activity is a shock for these students in a difficult academic year. “In theory, we were going to create this course synergies of work and collaborations, but Covid has ruined everything. The students were very discouraged and I thought that something had to be done to maintain that contact. That was when I noticed the technology and the usefulness of creating various platforms to make our work visible, including Tik Tok, a channel ofYoutube (https://youtu.be/okAipxO3XXk) and a blog », explains Santos.
The interview will have a header and several sections. In addition to the questions to the makeup artist, they will have a space in which they will have to answer true or false, to demystify aspects related to the sector, and another that they have called ‘speed date’, in order to meet the interviewee in just five minutes.
In this interview the students Lucía Fernández Gálvez and Ana will participate as presenters; in the True / False section: Lydia Hinojosa Ortiz and María Quintero Cintado; on the ‘Speed Date’: Marta Sevilla Ramírez; in Production: Elena Aguilera Durán and Malena Rodríguez Escribano. All of them will be coordinated by professors Patricia Santos and Lidia Martín, professor of Image and Sound, currently at the CEP of Marbella-Coín.
