After having rehabilitated and then directed a museum in the Loiret for ten years, she held the position of director of culture for local authorities in Orléans, or Evry. The question of the public and its access to culture is at the heart of its concerns. In 2017, she said she was in favor of “public action designed to serve the entire population, and not just for artistic projects.”

Catherine Dupraz will take up her duties on February 1, 2021.

What does a director of cultural affairs do?

The director of cultural affairs is at the crossroads of the world of culture, administration and local politics. It contributes to the development of cultural policy within the City, but also to the impetus and management of artistic and cultural projects. It must also oversee the various cultural services in its territory: museums, conservatory, libraries, municipal cultural spaces, Opera, etc. It is also the mediator between the project promoters and the community. It therefore has both a strategic and a managerial dimension.
