“A sad message for many, but there is no choice.” DelfSail will be canceled next year due to the corona virus, the organization says.

The organization expects that in June next year, when the event would be held, there will still be too many restrictive measures due to the virus.
We want everyone to be able to enjoy it without restrictions
Approximately one million visitors are expected
DelfSail is the largest event in our province. Previous editions drew around one million visitors to the port of Delfzijl. It is held once every six years.
‘We want everyone to be able to enjoy it, without restrictions on all sides. Everyone wants to enjoy DelfSail and walk freely on the quay, and that is not yet possible next year, ‘says director Jeannette Blijdorp.
New date is not yet known
The maritime event is being postponed. The organization hopes to be able to say in January when DelfSail can continue: ‘We are now conducting research. It depends on many other parties, these are worldwide processes. We have to look at what is a useful logistical moment, ‘says Blijdorp.
DelfSail belongs to all of us and it should remain that way
‘It is a disappointment for all of us’
It is also a blow for the director, who has been busy with the preparations in recent years: ‘This is part of your life. It is also very intense for me. ‘
Chairman Jan Koolhof is also disappointed. He says in a press release that this is the only correct decision: ‘DelfSail belongs to all of us and it should remain that way. This cannot be achieved in the usual way in a one-half meter reality. ‘
