The city tries to think about the post-Covid

The health crisis has shown it: health is also the business of town planners and developers. A concern that is not new. For several years now, initiatives have been emerging to integrate health issues into public policies which do not initially concern them: environment, mobility, urban projects, roads… Will the city be designed by doctors tomorrow?

In a report made public at the end of July 2020, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was already projecting itself on the post-Covid-19 city: “the pandemic has accelerated the transition to a new urban model of cities smart, green and inclusive ”. Like an invitation to design “better cities”… And to bring together the two entities of an old couple with complex relationships: health and town planning. Their alliance dates back to… Hippocrates (460-370 BC) who already paid specific attention to environmental conditions of health, giving a major place to inspired air. His doctrine will also guide medical thought until the 19th century, when the relationship between town planning and health intensified considerably, and for good reason, large infectious epidemics ravaged the European continent, especially large cities like London and Paris.
