The messaging service first introduced voice and video chat and group video to its mobile app in 2018 and now it looks like this same functionality could roll out to desktop via an update in the coming weeks.
According to the team at WABetaInfo, which specializes in discovering the upcoming WhatsApp feature, some users are currently beta testing an update to the service’s desktop client for macOS which allows VoIP calls and video calls to be made.
To start making audio calls or video calls on WhatsApp, the user needs to open the application desktop and navigate to the call button that now appears in the header at the top right of the app.
Other users who are trying to be called will be notified in the desktop version of the application and they will have the option to accept, reject or ignore the call. After the call, a small window will appear with quick controls to hang up, silence the call and to enable or disable video.
A more detailed disclosure of the new features WhatsApp will officially provide in the coming weeks.
