Unused FM frequencies – ARTP will do the grooming

For the provision of hertzian audiovisual services, broadcasters operate frequencies the use of which is authorized by the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (ARTP).

However, it was noted that the frequency plan relating to sound broadcasting was saturated in several localities in the country, thus leading to the rejection of several frequency requests.

Aware that this saturation is mainly caused by the non-use of a good part of the assigned frequencies, the regulatory authority, in order to find additional resources, is participating in the optimization project of the GE84 Plan relating to sound broadcasting, jointly initiated by the Radiocommunication Bureau of the International Telecommunications Union (BR) and the African Telecommunications Union (UAT).

“This FM frequency optimization exercise will make it possible to obtain new frequencies in certain localities of the country, at the end of a series of iterations which will end at the end of 2021. Faced with this situation, the ARTP has started the procedure withdrawal of assigned and unused frequencies, throughout the national territory ”, details the press release of which we have received a copy.

A provision which obeys the regulations in force, in particular article 15 of decree no.2019-1877of 11 November 2019 relating to radio frequencies.

Letters of formal notice have already been sent to the frequency assigners concerned.

The GE84 Plan optimization project, combined with the withdrawal process, will make it possible to have more resources in assignable frequencies in order to meet unmet demands.
