In the Netherlands, the first vaccinations will take place on January 8, Minister De Jonge reported prior to the debate. The GGD will vaccinate at three locations in the country no later than Monday 11 January, the CDA minister reports. From Monday, January 18, vaccinations will take place at 25 central locations in the country. ”
A ‘disgrace’, says PVV leader Wilders, who requested the debate. He points out that De Jonge has always said that ‘everything is ready to be vaccinated’. However, the call center still needs to be set up for appointments and the ICT system still needs to be tested. “What amateurism”, says Wilders, who points to countries that have already started vaccinating earlier, such as Belgium, Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom. “Shouldn’t they test an ICT system,” asks PvdA leader Asscher.
“Didn’t we just start too late?” Raises SP leader Marijnissen. She points to earlier times when De Jonge promised too much: with the corona app, the source and contact research and mouth masks for healthcare providers. According to faction leader Jetten van D66, it is urgent. “Every day that the country is locked for longer is a lost day.”
Doctor-microbiologist Marc Bonten says that two weeks earlier or later will not make the difference. According to Telegraaf reporter Wierd Duk members of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT) often make these kinds of remarkable statements:
“This timetable is the fastest possible,” writes De Jonge, who has to take into account the approval of the vaccine by the European medicines agency EMA. This is expected to happen next Monday. The vaccine will be officially admitted to the European market on Wednesday, after which the Health Council has yet to issue an opinion on 24 December.
‘If all due care criteria have been met’, the first invitations for vaccinations will be sent out on January 4 on Monday, January 4. “Why is there a gap between December 24 and January 4?”, Asks CDA party leader Heerma.
“Nobody is referring to this minister that he is rushing to work,” notes SGP leader Van der Staaij. “And that’s good news in a way.”
Inject twice
Vaccination with the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine consists of two injections. There are three weeks between those two vaccinations. Vaccinations are done seven days a week. “The wide opening hours of the GGD locations ensure that vaccination does not hinder the continuity of care in the institutions,” De Jonge writes.
First of all, care providers are vaccinated around the vulnerable elderly in nursing homes, care for the disabled and home care. The nursing home residents themselves will follow later. The Netherlands will receive around 500,000 vaccines this year, the CDA minister said.
Since the Pfizer vaccine must be stored at a temperature of -80 degrees Celsius, it is not suitable for small quantities to be brought to nursing homes. That is why central locations are being set up where care providers can go. The frail elderly are later vaccinated with Moderna’s vaccine, which can be kept at refrigerator temperature.
