Which Provinces Will Advance to Phase 1 Next May 18?

The Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, announced on Friday, May 8, the provinces that it would advance on Monday, May 11, to phase 1 of the de-escalation of the coronavirus. The islands of Formentera (Balearic Islands), El Hierro, La Graciosa and La Gomera (Canary Islands) have already been in phase 1 since last May 4. And as of May 11 the communities joined Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarra, Aragon, Extremadura, Murcia, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.

The communities in which only some provinces or certain health areas passed to phase 1 were: Andalusia, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia and the Valencian Community.

What were the requirements to pass?

The Autonomous Communities had to prove that they can guarantee in five days the availability of 1,5 a 2 ICU beds and from 37 to 40 beds of acute patients per 10,000 inhabitants to be able to make the jump from May 11. Provinces, islands and autonomous cities that go to phase one

Canary Islands

El Hierro, La Graciosa and La Gomera were already in phase 1 since May 4 and go to phase 2. In phase 1 are the rest of the islands: La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura.

Ceuta and melilla

The autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla also went to phase 1 as of this Monday, May 11.

Andalusia

After being in phase 1 six of the eight provinces since last Monday, May 4, Granada and Malaga, which remained in phase 0, will enter phase 1.

Murcia

The Murcia Region fully accesses Phase 1.

Estremadura

The two provinces of Extremadura, Cáceres and Badajoz, passed last Monday to phase 1 of the de-escalation plan.

In Castilla and La Mancha all the provinces are already in phase 1.

Valencian Community

The Valencian Community did not pass fully last Monday, May 11, to phase 1 of the de-escalation plan from confinement. Yes they did, by cons, six Health departments from the province of Alicante, three from Valencia and one from Castellón. They were the following ones: Vinaròs (Castellón), Requena (Valencia), Xàtiva-Ontinyent (Valencia), Gandia (Valencia), Alcoy (Alicante), Dénia (Alicante), La Marina Baixa (Alicante), Elda (Alicante), Orihuela (Alicante) and Torrevieja (Alicante).

This Friday Salvador Illa and Fernando Simón announced that the departments that did not access phase 1 will do so from next Monday.

Baleares

Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza fulfilled the requirements and joined Formentera, which was already in Phase 1. Now, this island will go to phase 2 from Monday.

Castile and Leon

42 sanitary zones are now added to the 26 that were in phase 1 last week.

Madrid’s community

The Community of Madrid will remain in phase 0 as reported by Salvador Illa and Fernando Simón.

Aragon

Catalonia

La Rioja also entered phase 1.

Asturias

The 78 Asturian councils passed on Monday, May 11, from phase 0 to 1, which will allow the opening, with restrictions and capacity limitations, of small businesses, terraces, churches of worship, open-air markets, libraries, museums or commercial establishments throughout the Principality.

Cantabria

Cantabria has been in phase 1 since May 11.

Basque Country

The Basque Country passes completely to phase 1.

Navarra

The Community of Navarra has managed to meet the requirements and agreed to phase 1. The community had supported its request on the strength of its health system, which could go from 1,690 hospital beds to 2,486 and from 82 ICU positions to 174 in less than five days.
