NHL Free Agency: Big deal for Artemi Panarin in New York – winter sports

The free agency madness in the NHL strikes in the first few hours!

With Artemi Panarin, probably the thickest fish is gone in no time: He decides not to stay in Columbus and moves to the New York Rangers. In the Big Apple, the 27-year-old Russian is expected to collect around 81.5 million US dollars for seven years.

Panarin came from the KHL to the NHL in 2015, first two years with the Chicago Blackhawks, then two years with the Columbus Blue Jackets. In 349 NHL games, the left wing has so far scored 125 goals and 221 assists.

Other painful exits in Columbus too

In general, the Blue Jackets have to put up with the loss of big names: Goalie Sergei Bobrovsky goes to the Florida Panthers and also signs a long-term contract for seven years. He collects a total of 70 million in the sunny US state and replaces the resigned legend Roberto Luongo.

Matt Duchene only came to Columbus by trade from the Ottawa Senators last winter, but now prefers to move on to the Nashville Predators. There are 56 million for his seven-year contract.

The Blue Jackets react by signing the Swede Gustav Nyquist, most recently with the San Jose Sharks. He’s signed a four-year contract for $ 22 million. Defense attorney Ryan Murray receives $ 9.2 million from Columbus for two years.

Vanek-whereabouts from the table

Mats Zuccarello’s next career stop after his short stay at the Dallas Stars drives him to the Minnesota Wild, where the Norwegian collects 30 million for five years. The Texans, for their part, bring San Jose Sharks veteran Joe Pavelski for three years and 21 million.

The Detroit Red Wings bring the Finn Valtteri Filppula back after six years with other teams, so that Thomas Vanek’s whereabouts should be off the table.

Wayne Simmonds (previously Nashville for a short time) with the New Jersey Devils only runs for over a year, earning him five million.

Goalie Cam Talbot will no longer be a teammate of Michael Raffl, he will go from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Calgary Flames for a year and 2.75 million.
