Vehicle runs over protesters in Manhattan

A car collided with a group of protesters at a Manhattan intersection Friday afternoon, leaving six injured, according to police reports.

The incident occurred around 4 pm at the corner of East 39th Street and Third Avenue in the Murray Hill sector.

The extent of the victims’ injuries and their conditions is not clear so far. In a post on Twitter, police urged people to avoid the area “due to a vehicle collision involving multiple pedestrians.”

The driver – apparently a woman – remained at the scene and is in custody.

Messages on social media show a woman who is detained by the police and taken handcuffed to a police vehicle. It is presumed that it is who was driving the vehicle.
