Two-time Grammy Award winner Gloria Gaynor (71) will end 2020 with a performance of her hit “I Will Survive” from 1978 on New Year’s Eve in Times Square in New York City. “Forbes” reports this, citing the organizer. Accordingly, the singer’s appearance will be part of a celebration that is to honor the “heroes of the year 2020”. This means the first responders and employees who are on the front line fighting the coronavirus pandemic, together with their families.
“It feels very appropriate to put the spotlight on those who tirelessly lead our nation through tough times with unwavering strength, determination, and serenity, and their families who also make sacrifices,” said Times Square Alliance President Tim Tompkins quoted in a statement on Tuesday. Unlike in the past 20 years, this time the celebration in Times Square will be produced exclusively for radio and streamed live for free. The organizers had already announced in September that the traditional New York Ball Drop would take place virtually at the turn of the year due to the corona pandemic.
