Bordeaux-Orly journeys will now be … by TGV

As part of the “Train + Air” program, SNCF is joining forces with Air France to link Bordeaux Saint-Jean station to Paris-Orly airport as of Tuesday, December 15.

While the connections between Bordeaux and Paris-Orly are no longer operated by plane, Air France relies on the TGV. After years of head-on competition on this axis with price battles, the French company has joined forces with SNCF under the “Train + Air” program (formerly TGV Air). As of December 15, it will be possible to travel from Bordeaux Saint-Jean station to destinations in the Air France international network from Orly, including the overseas departments, thanks to a single ticket .

Five daily departures will be provided from Bordeaux Saint-Jean (5:59 am, 8:04 am, 8:59 am, 12:59 pm, 3:59 pm) and four in the other direction (9:14 am, 5:13 pm, 7:14 pm, 8:56 pm), “Adapted timetables to allow rapid connections”, specifies a press release from Air France. No call rate is indicated for the rail part of the journey, the price being integrated “In end-to-end pricing that varies according to supply and demand”, according to Air France.

Passengers will pass through the Massy TGV station, where taxis will take them to Orly in about thirty minutes (normally, this axis is often very congested …). Note that this post “End to end” offers the guarantee of free transfer to the next flight in the event of a missed connection. Members of the Flying Blue loyalty program will also see the rail part of the journey counted in their accumulated miles and XP.

When announcing its restructuring plan in June 2020, Air France announced the end of the air shuttle between Orly and Bordeaux-Mérignac, which carried 560,000 passengers per year. These shuttles had been suspended during the first confinement. Note that flights between Bordeaux and Paris-CDG, where the TGV is not an alternative in less than 2h30, are themselves maintained.

The Train + Air program, formerly TGV Air, was launched 25 years ago to allow SNCF customers to combine train and plane journeys in the same reservation. Claiming 160,000 annual customers, the commercial program connects the two Parisian airports to 19 stations in the region (Angers Saint-Laud, Avignon TGV, Aix-en-Provence TGV, Bordeaux Saint-Jean, Brussels Midi, Champagne-Ardenne TGV, Le Mans, Lille Europe, Lorraine TGV, Lyon Part-Dieu, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Nîmes, Poitiers, Rennes, Saint-Pierre-des-Corps, Strasbourg, Valence TGV) and claims 12 global partner airlines.
