The Torremolinos City Council activates the control of the VTC
Malaga.- In a meeting held between the town hall and the representatives of the taxi sector, the Torremolinos City Council has decided to activate in the coming days an action protocol to control Transport Vehicles with Driver (VTC), such as Uber and Cabify .
The protocol has been prepared by the Traffic Unit of the Torremolinos City Council and its objective is to set the guidelines to be followed by the Local Police in the work of surveillance and inspection of the services that the VTCs have been performing.
The agents will inspect the transport authorization, the badge to be placed on the vehicles granted by the Autonomous Community of Andalusia and that the service has been communicated in advance electronically.
In addition, they will inspect that customer recruitment is not carried out on public roads, as established by the Law of Land Transportation Management.
This was explained by the Councilor for Mobility and Security, Antonio Ruiz:
“It is a necessary measure, since we are responding to a demand that the taxi drivers have been requesting from the City Council for some time, and with which we intend that the taxi sector does not suffer even more the consequences of this terrible pandemic.
The president of the Torremolinos Taxi Association, Juan López, has assured that the group receives this measure “as very satisfactory”, since it ensures that there is terrible competition and a regulation is necessary to regulate it.
“Our current situation is very bad. Since March we are hardly generating income, although we are receiving some aid. We work long hours for very little money and if this continues it will be unsustainable. Some colleagues have even had to stop paying the fee we pay to maintain our association.
