On December 14 on Netflix, discover the series “Tiny Pretty Things”. This new show takes place in the world of classical dance and follows young girls determined to find their place in this uncompromising environment.
Tiny Pretty Things, story of fierce competition
Rooted in the cruel world of dance, Tiny Pretty Things takes place in Chicago and more precisely in a very famous school, the “Archer School of Ballet”. Those who integrate it already have an excellent level and all aim at one and the same thing: join the “City Works Ballet” troupe.
Who will reach the top? Who will see their dream collapse? In Tiny Pretty Things, everything can happen. We will be particularly interested in the fate of three young students of the Archer School: Neveah, June and Bette. The tension should therefore be particularly intense throughout the ten episodes of the series. Lies and betrayals are likely to arise faster than expected, but how far will the protagonists go to reach the top?
The adaptation of a best-seller
Tiny Pretty Things is adapted from the novel of the same name by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton. If the plot of the book takes place in Manhattan and not Chicago, Netflix series seems very faithful to the book. For curious readers, note thata sequel has been published under the name of Shiny Broken Pieces. Michael MacLennan (Queer as Folk, The Bletchey Circle) officiates as scriptwriter of the series, in collaboration with the two authors of the novel.
If you expect an atmosphere feel-good, go your way. Tiny Pretty Things East above all a thriller. Indeed, Neveah, a young and talented dancer at first refused at the Archer School, was finally called back by the prestigious school. Unfortunately, she quickly becomes disillusioned when she discovers that this sudden change coincides with the terrible accident who left the academy’s best ballerina in a coma. An accident or rather an attempted murder, as we whisper in the halls of the institute. Is the culprit one of the dancers? Worse, does he intend to start over?
Dance wonders on screen
Kylie Jefferson plays Neveah, the school’s newcomer and first black student. The young actress is also an emeritus dancer. She started dancing at the age of four and two years later becomes the youngest student admitted to a prestigious California dance school founded by Debbie Allen, her mentor. If the name of this jack-of-all-trades doesn’t ring a bell, know that she lends her features to Dr. Catherine Fox, mother of Jackson Avery in Grey’s Anatomy.
Casimere Jollette will be Bette, an excellent and irritating dancer ready to do anything to come back to the top and thus satisfy her tyrannical parent. She has also been awarded several times for her dance performances, the young woman has notably turned in Chicago P.D. and Dirty John. It is also found in This is Us, where she plays a ballerina. The third protagonist of Tiny Pretty Things, June, dreams of stepping out of her role as understudy. Daniela Norman (Cats), a talented ballerina who played Aurore in The Sleeping Beauty, will slip into the skin of the teenager. Among adult actors of Tiny Pretty Things, we note the presence of Lauren Holly (unforgettable Jen Shepard in NCIS), blonde for the occasion.
So, will you follow Neveah, June and Bette’s bitter struggle to get to the top?
