New Delhi: India captain Virat Kohli is one of the best batsmen in world cricket. Kohli excels in all formats of cricket. But like all batsmen, Kohli had a bad time. Kohli had a poor showing in Test cricket early in his career. Kohli made his Test debut in 2011, three years after making his ODI debut. But in his first series against the West Indies, he scored just 76 runs in three Tests.
Kohli did not get a chance in the squad for the tour of England. He then went on to score two half-centuries in a Test against the West Indies. Kohli was included in the squad for the Australian tour. In Test matches in Melbourne and Sydney, Kohli scored 11, 0, 23 and 9 in four innings. Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar now recalls Kohli’s early suffering.
When the time came for Kohli, who had faded in two matches, to be dropped from the team, he was supported by MS. Manjrekar told an international media that it was Dhoni. Kohli, who scored 44.75 in Perth, also scored his first Test century of his career in Adelaide. Although India lost the series 4–0, it was the only match in which India won the Test against superstar Kohli.
Virat Kohli is the same as Virat Kohli. He is finding ways to score runs. In 2011/12, India lost 0–4 and Kohli scored a century. It was also the only century scored by an Indian in that series. Kohli was on the verge of being dropped from the team after the match in Sydney. Dhoni backed Kohli. So he put out a great performance. Now the Indian batsmen are finding good runs in Adelaide. The nature of the pitch there is similar to that of Indian grounds, Manjrekar said.
Adelaide is Kohli’s lucky ground in Australia. In the absence of Dhoni in 2014, when Kohli led India, he scored centuries in Adelaide. Kohli has scored four centuries in Adelaide. The first Test between India and Australia will be played in Adelaide.
