On Sunday evening (Dutch time), the police of the American city of New York shot a man who had drawn two weapons at a Christmas concert at a church on the street and started shooting around him. The shooting began shortly after the concert ended.
The incident took place at Saint John the Divine Cathedral on Amsterdam Avenue in the Harlem district. In addition to the choir, there were about fifteen bystanders. None of them were injured, according to the police.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was hit in the head at least once during the shooting and was taken to a local hospital. There it was determined that he had already died.
Officers have shot the man about 15 times, according to New York Police Commissioner Dermot Shea.
The man turned out to be carrying two semi-automatic firearms. He also had a bag with him in which he had a canister of gasoline, as well as rope, cables, various knives, a Bible and tape. “I think we can conclude from the contents of his bag that he had bad intentions,” said the police commissioner.
