Mexico City. With the virtual presentation of The acidity of butterflies, directed, coordinated and performed by students of the artistic scholarship program of the Theater Company and the Bachelor of Theater of the Universidad de las Américas Puebla successfully concluded their fall 2020 season.
With the two functions it gave, the staging was the third play of the first season of live video theater carried out by the Universidad de las Américas Puebla through the Zoom platform.
The work of the Mexican playwright Mónica Perea was directed by the student Cristóbal Meza Alonso from the seventh semester of the Theater Degree. Students from other degrees such as Dance and Digital Animation were involved in the creative process. The interpretation was in charge of the five actors and actresses, from the first and third semesters: Alexa Flores, Karla Hermosillo, Daniela Gallardo, Diego Cruz, Emiliano Figueroa and Evelyn Díaz.
The acidity of butterflies It was recorded by means of Zoom without pauses or cuts, which resulted in a kind of coordinated choreography between each actor.
This work addresses the issue of women and their transformation in their different stages of life in relation to strong changes or situations of abuse, all this through a metaphor that compares it with the monarch butterfly and its journey, thus, with the performance of the four actresses invited viewers to experience this moment of transformation in a unique way.
The Theater Degree, its students and academics committed to their artistic work sought to adapt to this new modality of work, thus enabling this space that not only gave way to the activation of theatrical work, but also managed to approach a virtual audience from different cities
The autumn 2020 theater season consisted of three works with different formats, for example, Siete Puertas, the play that started the season was performed in individual scenes recorded on the Zoom platform, while Unearthing silenced stories It was a series of videos that take up elements of theatrical poetics and video art, recorded individually by the actors and later mounted and The acidity of butterflies was recorded as a group in Zoom.
