The statement
The Corsican Assembly, led by the nationalists, voted to ban the deployment of telephony antennas for 5G technology in the island territory during its plenary assembly this week. Other towns and cities had passed moratoria or bans in this direction.
A vote for nothing
Operators can deploy anyway if they wish. The Conseil d’État, the supreme administrative body in France, has established that “only the state authorities designated by law are competent to generally regulate the installation of mobile telephone masts”.
Deployment has started
Three operators, Bouygues, on about twenty sites in Paris and in the provinces (Lyon, Nancy, Metz, Reims Dijon, Le Havre, Montpellier, etc.), SFR and Orange on a dozen (Marseille, Le Mans, Angers, have indeed has started to equip several sites. Nice is the first city connected by the three operators. Free should be launched in 2021.
