“My name is Eden. I am 5 years old. And I am a victim of Covid-19. This is how Céline Moine, a young single mother from Châtelet (Charleroi region) began a message posted on Facebook, recounting the ordeal suffered by her little boy.
“Eden began to have a flu-like condition, then to suffer from stomach aches and vomiting, it was at the beginning of November”, remembers Céline. “The doctor initially believed it was gastroenteritis… He was given medication to treat it. But as the days went by, Eden’s state did not improve, he had difficulty urinating and his fever was rising more and more day by day. “

“There the doctor advised me to go to the hospital. I will never forget it, it was a Friday the 13th! And there too, we did not initially believe in Covid, but a PCR test was still carried out. “While waiting for the results of this test, Eden and her mother return home, to Châtelet. “We were told we could go home. He had medicine to treat his urinary tract infection, an antibiotic. The fever was coming from there, the doctors had told me. “But the next day, the hospital emergency pediatrician called Celine:” The test was final: Eden, despite her young age, was well affected by the coronavirus, although he did not show symptoms. “
Quarantine is imposed on the family. “I was told it would go away like the flu in a child!” Only, after two or three nights, my son started screaming to wake me up: his legs hurt, I still hear him screaming. Impossible to walk! “
Return to the emergency room by ambulance. “Eden was installed in a room, in the pediatric ward, with sedatives to relieve his pain before he took numerous examinations,” recalls Céline.
Blood test, urine test, ultrasound, x-ray … The child is placed under a drip, through which he is administered the battery of prescribed drugs. “We discover that his white blood cell count is very high. And Eden has very bad legs, again! Ultrasounds show the boy has water in his hip and right foot. And the weeks of hospitalization follow one another. The verdict falls on December 2: besides the Covid, Eden also suffers from an oculo-utero-synovial syndrome and a urinary tract infection!
Today, the little one was able to return home, but he still has to struggle, even though he has recovered from the coronavirus. “He’s still on antibiotics for his infections. His right leg still hurts him. This Friday, his rheumatologist will come to observe him again. Eden can only move in a grandstand and, on certain days, he still suffers terribly, ”her mother continues.
