Basal cell carcinoma is that condition that develops on the skin and begins in those basal glands that are responsible for renewing the epidermis through skin cells, the condition usually appears as a lump or a transparent bump, however, it can develop in multiple ways, the pathology has a great predominance in those areas that are exposed to solar rays such as the face, head and neck.
Basal cell carcinoma according to the literature is stated to develop due to a great exposure to external agents such as the sun, since ultraviolet rays can affect the skin causing the condition.
Symptoms
There is a symptomatic range that is focused on the condition, as there are some specific characteristics of the condition that differ from others that may originate in the skin area, according to the Mayo Clinic these are:
- Development of a skin-colored bump or that presents some abnormality and reddish pigmentation.
- origin of a red, brown or blue lesion in any area of the body, especially the face.
- Manifestation of a patch with flat, scaly features.
- Appearance of a lesion that closely resembles a scar, this is the least common symptom of the condition.
Risk factor’s
- High exposure to the sun: those who have a high exposure to UV rays are prone to developing malignancy since this agent can affect the cells of the epidermis.
- Radiotherapy: exposure to radiation can affect not only the skin but also some vital organs, a consequent therapy of this type of treatment can cause this pathology.
- Light-skinned people.
- Advanced age.
- Family history of skin cancer.
- Immunosuppressive drugs.
- Exposure to arsenic.
- Syndromes that can lead to skin cancer.
It is important that all those pathologies that can develop in the skin are taken into account, as there are many different types and diagnoses and several of these are not treated in the same way as the manifestations vary according to the patient and the development of the same condition.
