Argentine taxi drivers demonstrate in Bariloche against the arrival of Uber
Uber tries to put its claws also in Bariloche (Argentina).
Bariloche taxi drivers held a demonstration at the train station against the landing in the city of the transport company Uber, to later depart for the Civic Center.
This was indicated by Luis Barrales, from the taxi drivers union in the city:
“This permanent threat of the arrival of transport companies such as Uber, Cabify and DiDi, puts at risk the 700 jobs of the families of taxi drivers.
We want to show that we are united, but we make it clear that we will peacefully defend our work.
He clarified that the use of the applications of these companies in Buenos Aires “were prohibited by the Justice”, but “despite the fact that the National Federation of Taxi Workers went to ENACOM, we have not yet had an answer.”
He even stated that one of the cities designated for arrival is Bariloche, “because of what the brand means, and taking into account that it is the first city with a tourist opening.”
«We do not disagree that new regulated activities, that pay taxes, that have registered workers, that they pay taxes, reach the city, but we do disagree that unfair competition arrives that does not pay anything, without an office, where it is not known who He is the owner.
Asked about the current situation of taxi drivers, Barrales described it as “critical” but “we cannot add more uncertainties to the families. There are already many who today cannot go out to work, others are paying the car fees, we have to keep the workers.
