Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo was accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut B. Pandjaitan called Tesla CEO Elon Musk, on Friday (11/12/2020). One of the president’s chats with the Tesla boss was to invite Tesla to launch Space X in Indonesia.
“The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, invited Tesla to see Indonesia as a launch pad for Space X,” said a press release from the Communication Bureau of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment, quoted on Saturday (12/12/2020).
Not only that, the main purpose of Jokowi calling the Tesla boss is to discuss investment opportunities for the Tesla electric car company in Indonesia.
Regarding this, the two sides exchange views regarding the electric car industry. As well as the main component of electric car batteries.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk responded to the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo by planning to send his team to Indonesia in January 2021 to explore all the opportunities for this collaboration.
Previously, Elon Musk had mentioned the name of Indonesia regarding nickel reserves to support the battery industry that Tesla would use. The electric car company has recently become the talk of the news about the plan to build a battery factory in Batang, Central Java.
The factory that Tesla will build in Indonesia is not a car assembly line, but rather for the production needs of electric car batteries. The government directed Tesla to enter the Batang industrial area which is being built by the government.
Tesla’s plan to build a factory in Indonesia is also still being explored. According to the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang, communication between the Indonesian government and the company owned by Elon Musk continues.
Even the Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia stressed that the government continues to seduce Tesla to invest in Indonesia. Tesla representatives and the Indonesian delegation led by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan met last November in the US.
“Most likely we persuade Tesla to enter,” said Bahlil at the end of last November.
