Lee Seo-hyun, chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation, and her husband, Kim Jae-yeol, president of the Samsung Economic Research Institute, arrived at the scene at around 8:05 in a black Mercedes vehicle. The four children of Chairman Lee and President Kim also traveled in a carnival vehicle.

In addition to former director Hong, President Lee and Chairman Lee wore white mourning gowns. In addition, Samsung owners who attended the 49th meeting, including Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong, wore masks.

Excluding his family, Wonhaeng, the head of the general secretary representing the Jogye sect of Korean Buddhism, arrived at Jingwansa Temple at around 8 am to attend the 49th Festival.

49 Jae is a Buddhist ritual in which ashes are held seven times every 7 days after a person dies and prays for the blessings of the deceased. It is to pray for the blessings of those who have passed away through the ceremony of reading Buddhist scriptures every 7 days and offering offerings to the Buddha.

In line with the Buddhist tradition, the ceremony for President Lee was officially concluded with the hope of the deceased being reborn in paradise.

Chairman Lee passed away at the Samsung Medical Center for a long time after falling down at his home in Itaewon-dong, Seoul due to an acute myocardial infarction in May 2014, and died at the age of 78 while his family watched on October 25th.

Chairman Lee, who took office as chairman of the Samsung Group in 1987 when he was in his 40s, is regarded as a person who laid the foundation for a truly global company by placing Samsung at the top of the world in various fields such as semiconductors, smartphones, and TVs.

Samsung Group’s sales from 10 trillion won at the time of inauguration increased by 39 times to 386 trillion won in 2018, and the market capitalization has also increased from 1 trillion won to 400 trillion won.
