The Supreme Court decision is a major setback for Trump, who himself appointed three of the nine high justices. “The Supreme Court has really failed us. No wisdom. No courage ”, he concluded on Twitter.
Trump said he received a record number of votes for a sitting president, but the court decided to dismiss the case “in the blink of an eye.” He also complained that the court did not consider the substance of “the many reasons” for bringing the case.
Texas had argued that authorities and courts in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin had illegally altered election procedures. This was done, for example, to make it easier to vote by mail during the corona crisis.
The Texas authorities stated that only the parliaments of states have the power to modify such procedures. The Southern state therefore wanted to prevent state electoral votes from being assigned to Joe Biden through the Supreme Court.
The president has maintained that he has lost the elections due to fraud, but his lawyers have repeatedly failed to prove it in court. “A manipulated election,” wrote Trump, who also called for “further fighting.” Twitter warned with that message that Trump’s claims about fraud are being disputed.
