The US Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the lawsuit filed by the US state of Texas to invalidate the election results in four US states.
According to the Supreme Court, the state of Texas had no legal basis to file the lawsuit. Texas has no legal interest in how other states conduct their elections, the court said.
The Republican Texas filed the lawsuit on behalf of US President Donald Trump, who believes that the votes in the states of Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin should be declared invalid. The votes in the four states were crucial to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
It is yet another defeat that incumbent President Donald Trump has suffered in his legal battle to undo the election defeat against incoming President Joe Biden.
According to Trump, there would have been widespread fraud during the election last November. So far no evidence has been provided for this.
The Trump camp has filed dozens of lawsuits in the United States to change the outcome of the Nov. 3 election. Almost all of those lawsuits have been lost by the president so far. Last week, he lost cases in Michigan and Nevada and in recounts in Georgia, Biden remained the winner.
