Swiss private banks, digital confidentiality and the need for legal access by the state

On November 25, a report from the show Rundschau of the SRF made public that Omnisec AG, a large Swiss manufacturer of encryption systems, was also controlled or compromised by the US and German secret services. We also learned how the privacy of the IT systems used by UBS, the world’s largest wealth manager, may have been affected. Rundschau is the same medium that co-edited the report on Crypto AG and InfoGuard AG last February.

This is not news or a surprise to the experts. However, until now, few press reports have linked the proven fact that some large Swiss banks were clients of InfoGuard AG for decades, until 2018 a sister company of Crypto AG. Most of the media have not explored what this information means for the confidentiality of the Swiss banking center. In fact, little information was publicly available on the nature and extent of these trade relationships.
