The upgrade has been funded by EIT Food, Europe’s leading food innovation initiative. The DLC will be available for both the PC and console versions and includes new gameplay elements for a more ecological farming. It is also part of the Precision Agriculture Project designed to spread awareness about modern agriculture.
Initiated by agricultural machine manufacturer John Deere, the Precision Agriculture Project will run for two years in collaboration with the European Union, the University of Hohenheim in Germany and the University of Reading in England.
Modern precision agriculture technologies are introduced into Farming Simulator as one of EIT’s many efforts to raise awareness of sustainable agriculture and address the false belief that sustainable agriculture is only possible on small farms producing organic crops.

I am impressed by the excellent and very effective cooperation with Giants Software and our partners, said Dr. Thomas Engel, John Deere’s manager of technology innovation strategy.
The first version of the DLC already offers more than I bargained for. Features such as soil sampling and variable fertilization offer an excellent introduction to the world of precision agriculture. I am convinced that we can greatly strengthen the knowledge about modern agriculture in the gaming community.
Thomas Frey, Vice President of Giants Software, added that Being part of the project from the first minute, I am now eager to see the reactions of the players. Together with John Deere, we are off to a great start and I am looking forward to even better integration and more features in the future.
Continuing the Giants penchant for realism and precision, the new DLC will allow players to identify four different soil types, working with individual requirements to optimize performance. This will involve the player responding to the pH and nitrogen levels in the soil to save resources like seeds, fertilizers, fuel, maintenance costs, and more. In turn, money is saved while being more environmentally friendly.

The DLC also includes actual soil sampling machinery, such as the John Deere Gator and the fully automated Isaria Scout.
However, there is much more to precision farming than just soil, and this new DLC will be the first step in developing more free content for Farming Simulator.
While the exact course has yet to be determined, the project will continue to develop more gameplay features that build a connection between modern society and agriculture. This will be done in collaboration with the University of Hohenheim, the University of Reading, and player feedback.
We are excited to elevate the realism aspect of Farming Simulator with the expertise of our partner John Deere as we contribute to solving an agricultural challenge, said Christian Ammann, CEO of Giants. We hope that the new features of the game will please our fans while spreading knowledge of modern agricultural technology.
