Disney + relies on Star Wars and Marvel in a pack of ten

The Disney group is expanding its range of material from its Star Wars and Marvel universes on the Disney + streaming portal. Ten new series should be published via the streaming service in the coming years, according to a presentation for investors. A further 15 cinema and 15 cartoons are also to be sent to customers in this way. They should be presented with something new every week. The group’s share initially gained 2.5 percent in after-hours trading.

Disney + says it currently has 86.8 million subscribers. After the announcement in after-hours trading, the group’s share initially rose 2.5 percent.

In the entire past fiscal year 2020, Disney claims to have suffered a net loss of $ 2.8 billion. For comparison: In the previous year, the group had earned $ 10.4 billion. According to the financial data provider Factset, the group has not suffered an annual loss since at least 1980. Disney’s fiscal year differs from the calendar year and ends in September.

Series and film fans should take the Disney plans positively after the media group WarnerMedia will not start its streaming service HBO Max in Germany in the coming year.

HBO productions continue on Sky first

In Germany, HBO content and blockbusters from the Warner Bros. studio will only be able to be seen on the pay-TV channel Sky in the future. An evaluation contract between WarnerMedia and Sky continues to exist, it said.

HBO Max is set to expand internationally in Latin America and Europe in the coming year. Existing HBO services, including in Portugal and the Scandinavian countries, will be converted to HBO Max. It is still unclear whether the service will also come to Germany after the contract with Sky expires. Warner aims to offer the service in 190 countries.
