Arrested in Zaragoza for obtaining cash by deceiving taxi drivers

The National Police have arrested a 24-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of more than 20 crimes of theft.

The detainee stole purses from the victims’ carelessness and then got into a taxi and used it as an “automatic teller machine” by agreeing on a previous trip price, canceling it in half and asking for the unspent. This is how he got cash on every trip.

The arrest took place on the afternoon of Thursday, November 5, and at the time of being identified in public, he was carrying documentation that related him to a new event.

The same modus operandi for each of the six crimes that are charged, all of them committed in just one week, carried out in very central streets of the Aragonese capital.

The detainee has more than twenty arrests for similar crimes.

Once the detainee had obtained the cash, he began to use bank cards, for which he required the services of several taxis. Under the excuse that the card had little balance and that he had an urgent need to go to a hospital, the now detained man agreed with the taxi driver a price in advance.

Using the same technique on each occasion, he canceled the race after a few minutes, pretending to have to attend to some needs before going to his medical consultation, so he required the driver to pay the proportional cash payment of the ineffective race, thus achieving liquidity in each of the trips.

The detainee made up to ten trips by taxi in the same day and there are dozens of those made in just one week.

After passing through the Investigative Court on duty, the perpetrator has been released.
