British Prime Minister Boris Johnson went to the European Union (EU) headquarters to overcome the’no deal’ Brexit crisis, and began to shudder when he was told to obey the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) rules.
According to Reuters, DPA, and Telegraph on the 9th (local time), Prime Minister Johnson headed to Brussels, Belgium to hold a dinner meeting with EU Executive Chairman Ursula von der Reien, the head of the EU administration.
The leaders decided to meet in person to find a breakthrough in future relations negotiations between the UK and the EU.
The Brexit transition period ends at the end of this year, and negotiations between the two sides are still stalemate.
Prime Minister Johnson headed for the event with Chairman Pon der Laien, and when the photographers reached the waiting area, he suggested taking off the mask and taking a picture.
Chairman Pon der Raien agreed and said, “You should keep your distance instead,” and Prime Minister Johnson stepped back.
Chairman Pon der Raien took off the mask for a while during the photo shoot and said, “You have to put on the mask again. You have to put it on right away.”
As Prime Minister Johnson put on a mask, he said, “This is very thorough, Ursula. We’re doing it.”
The German news agency DPA interpreted that Prime Minister Johnson praised Chairman Pon der Reien.
At this dinner, they couldn’t narrow the gap in terms of future relations and gathered opinions only to negotiate more until the weekend.
Dinner consisted of pumpkin soup, scallops, steamed flounder, and mashed potatoes with wasabi, and tropical fruits and coconut sorbet were served for dessert.
Among them, scallops are an item that the UK and France had a conflict in 2012. The fishing industry as a whole is currently a major issue in the negotiations.
Prime Minister Johnson tweeted a photo of getting on a plane with a red paper case before dinner, and wrote that he believed there was still hope for negotiations with Brussels.
He said in Congress that EU demands were “unacceptable conditions for the British Prime Minister.”
