The corona numbers have risen to a new high nationwide today, despite current measures in the so-called lockdown light. The hospitals in the metropolitan areas in particular feel the increased burden.
For example, if a nurse has to be quarantined because he is considered a suspected case, then the tasks have to be taken over by other colleagues. The workload increases for everyone on the ward. And the burden is high anyway: There are 22 Covid patients in Neubrandenburg, six of them are in the intensive care unit with a difficult course. Only one bed is still free on the Corona ward. There are 703 intensive care beds in all of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, not just for corona patients. On Wednesday, 45 Covid sufferers were treated in the intensive care units, 14 of them ventilated – that is what the figures from the Robert Koch Institute say. Slightly more than 20 percent of the beds in the intensive care units in the country are still free.
Nursing staff are also infected with Corona
There are also suspected corona cases or infections among nursing staff. 40 employees of the Helios clinics in Schwerin are currently in quarantine, and the virus has been detected in 10 of them. Two weeks ago there was a corona outbreak among the nursing staff in the intensive care unit in Neubrandenburg. There are now temporary workers from other areas of the hospital. This affects the whole day-to-day hospital routine.
Lowest quarantine number among staff at Rostock University Medical Center
According to a spokesman, 17 employees are in quarantine at the Sana Hanse Clinic in Wismar – those who can now do the home office. And according to the management, “a low double-digit number is in quarantine” at the University of Greifswald’s clinic. This does not endanger the main operation, but in some cases operations and treatments that are not necessary are already being postponed in order to remain able to act. There are currently two hospital employees in quarantine at Rostock University Medical Center, which is the lowest number in the country. Operation there is currently not restricted.
