Individuals used only phones bought from the markets and buried them in the ditches on the roadsides before returning to Bulgaria. The criminal group consisted of Bulgarian citizens and operated in Romania and Bulgaria, according to DIICOT.
Some of them, the so-called “vartachi”, called at random to various landline numbers and under various pretexts misled and deceived the injured persons, from whom they demanded and obtained large sums of money and / or valuables, and others had the role of recruiting and controlling couriers who took money and valuables from victims.
Individuals rented rooms in hotels and boarding houses where no identity documents were required, bought SIM cards from various kiosks, gas stations and supermarkets, and used only mobile devices purchased from fairs and markets.
Several mobile devices were hidden in ditches on the roadsides before entering Bulgaria, while others were destroyed.
The estimated damage reaches 500,000 euros.
