Rowers who are doing great in cycling: we already experienced it during the first lockdown when rower Tim Brys impressed in the Container Cup with the then best cycling time. Afterwards, the other rower, Ward Lemmelijn, did even better than Mathieu van der Poel in the student version of the television program.
“We did some alternative training during the lockdown, including cycling,” said Brys in Vive le Vélo earlier this year. “We also do a fair amount of training at Zwift. Together with other international rowers, we provoked some competition.”
But then already striking was the performance of Jason Osborne, who had the KOM (King of the Mountain) on Strava on the Muur van Geraardsbergen. “We are all amazed at what he can do on a bike,” said Brys. “It cannot be described.”
“He had never been there, he came to Belgium one day especially, to catch KOMs. He had never ridden on cobblestones. I hope he focuses even more on cycling, because he is a of the men to beat, “laughs Brys.
Brys now also seems to get an answer to his question that Osborne would visit the bike more often, because the German would have a pre-agreement with Bora-Hansgrohe to become a professional cyclist after the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
“Maybe I will switch to cycling after the Games in Tokyo”, the German stirred up those rumors in an interview after the win at the World Cup in esports.
