CDU and SPD in the state parliament argue over Offenbach. The HIHK President expressed concerns about a possible hard lockdown after Christmas.
Ismail Tipi, member of the CDU state parliament, has rejected allegations by the SPD that the state is to blame for the high number of infections (incidence 283) in Offenbach. The social democratic member of the state parliament, Nadine Gersberg, from Offenbach had previously criticized the actions of the black-green coalition as being too timid and hesitant. “It is not correct that the state government prevented further measures by the city of Offenbach,” said Tipi, accusing Gersberg of ignorance and dissemination of false information. A curfew or other measures could have been imposed much earlier by the city itself.
The city had refrained from that. “Otherwise there would be a different type of curfew in every city over 200,” said Offenbach’s Mayor Felix Schwenke (SPD). From Saturday, the curfew will be introduced in Offenbach from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – at least until December 23rd.
Gersberg also criticized the fact that it was not possible to monitor compliance with the new restrictions across the board because the Offenbach authorities were understaffed. “Thanks to black and green, the Hessian police are training more police officers than ever before,” said Tipi.
Eberhard Flammer, President of the Hessian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HIHK), was worried about a hard lockdown after Christmas. “I understand that politicians have to act in the face of the dramatic figures,” he said. “At the same time, we must not jeopardize the livelihoods of so many people across the board.” The damage that is being caused here in the inner cities extends far beyond the current crisis. “The officially closed companies in Hesse are still waiting in vain for the extraordinary economic aid,” criticized Flammer. “November aid will probably turn into January aid.”
