With 26,032 corona rapid tests carried out, Tuesday was the busiest day in Vienna’s mass tests so far. 88 people tested positive and had another PCR test carried out on them.
In Vienna, a total of 26,032 rapid antigen tests were carried out as part of the large-scale coronavirus mass tests. This was the busiest day so far since the start of mass tests on Friday. 88 quick tests were positive, said a spokesman for Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) of the APA in the evening. The recent loosening of access, namely that you can now be tested in the fair without prior registration, has had an effect, said the spokesman.

PCR test in 88 positive cases
Tuesday’s result in detail: 88 people with a positive rapid test result then carried out a PCR test in the form of a gargle test on the spot. This is necessary because a positive result in a rapid test can be quite inaccurate due to the susceptibility to errors. Another 80 people also had to gargle because the nasal swab did not work.

The results of today’s PCR tests were not yet available on Tuesday evening – those of the past few days were mostly already: On Friday 40 people were actually infected (one test is still being evaluated), on Saturday there were 47 (two tests are still being evaluated ). So far 62 people have been identified as having been infected with coronavirus on Sunday, nine test results from that day are still pending. On Monday yesterday 64 infections have been diagnosed to date – with 16 PCR test results still pending.

Mass test until Sunday
In the federal capital you can get a free test until Sunday at three locations – in the city hall, the Marxhalle and the Messe Wien. Registration is no longer necessary for Messe Wien. This is to increase the very low utilization as far as possible. The Vienna test lines actually have a total capacity of up to 150,000 people per day.

Today Tuesday was the strongest test day since the start on Friday. The relaxed access rule – testing without registering at the trade fair – is said to have shown its effect: “The number of tests carried out at the trade fair was almost twice as high as the number of registrations,” explained the speaker.
