Sonos lets users add second Sub to soundbar – Image and sound – News

I really can’t imagine anyone doing this … The sub is a reasonable addition but really not worth the money to post 2 copies.

Subwoofers are a pain. They must be large and suffer from interference from livestock. Sound waves are reflected off the wall and then dampen the sound of certain frequencies. In addition, they lose energy quickly and you have to put the sub very hard for good results.

With two subs you have less interference, making the sound much better. In addition, you do not have to turn the subs as loud as the sound comes from two places, making it easier to fill your entire room with an even sound.

The question then remains whether the price of two subwoofers is in relation to a Sonos. A good sub costs more than a Sonos. But you can easily take subwoofers with you to your next system. If at any point you decide to upgrade to a full AV receiver, you can just take the subs with you.

That could also be done with fronts, but then you will also have to provide reinforcement. Subwoovers usually have a built-in amplifier, but most speakers don’t. I don’t think the built-in amplifier of a Sonos has enough power to drive a bunch of “normal” front speakers. You can of course connect much smaller speakers, but then the question is how much advantage that really delivers over the built-in speakers. In addition, you probably have no use for those speakers if you later want to upgrade to a larger system.
In theory you could still connect active speakers, but then you end up in a very special niche.
