The Vaudois overtook the ZSC Lions, who are still in quarantine. Lausanne has two points more in the table than the ZSC Lions, who also played one more game.
Not only in Lausanne there was cheering on Lake Geneva. Servette prevailed in the chase duel against Friborg-Gottéron 4: 3 after a penalty shootout. Geneva won four of their last five games and advanced to third place for the first time this season.
In the lower half of the table, HC Ambri-Piotta consolidated 7th place in the table with a 6-2 win over HC Davos. Ambri defeated the Bündner twice within four days and scored six goals on both occasions (6: 4 and 6: 2). Davos (11th) in Ambri and Bern (10th) in Lausanne failed to improve their awkward table situation.
Bern’s offensive perplexity
Even under young coach Mario Kogler (33), SC Bern is not yet out of the crisis. The Bernese conceded the second defeat with 0: 3 in Lausanne in the third game under the Austrian. Despite all the changes, the Bernese look at a loss from game to game on the offensive.
Under Don Nachbaur, the SCB scored 29 goals in 12 games, almost two and a half goals per game. In the three games under Kogler, the Bernese met twice – at 2-1 after extra time in Zug at the Austrian’s premiere.
Brian Gibbons gave Lausanne a lucky lead in the 7th minute with the home team’s first chance to score. The longer the game lasted, the more obvious the superiority of the new leader became. In the second half of the game, Bern barely found the way in front of the goal of Luca Boltshauser (26 saves), who came to the first shutout of this season, despite the deficit.
Denis Malgin and Cory Conacher (as former SCB mercenaries) secured Lausanne’s victory with two goals within 43 seconds to 3-0 (53rd).
Servette wins after a detour
The Genève-Servette Hockey Club won the home game against Freiburg two days after the 0: 4 in Langnau with 4: 3 after a penalty shootout. Geneva have won four of their last five games.
After a great start to the game, Servette took a detour to victory. Servette led 3: 1 after 22 minutes and pressed more goals. Ryan Gunderson and Andrej Bykow equalized for the Freiburg guests in the second section within nine minutes. After that, Gottéron was even closer to victory until the penalty shoot-out.
In the penalty shootout, Henrik Tömmernes and Noah Rod scored for Servette, while Viktor Stalberg was the only one of Gottéron’s five shooters to score. With a brilliant defensive action (puck knocked away on the line) in extra time, Geneva made the penalty shoot-out possible.
