Quique Setien lined up to replace Manuel Pellegrini at Real Betis less than four months after Barcelona’s brutal dismissal

Quique Setien is reportedly set to return to former Real Betis less than four months after being fired by Barcelona.

The 62-year-old experienced manager enjoyed a productive two-year season at Betis before taking over as Erneste Valverde’s successor at Camp Nou in January.

However, he was fired just seven months later after a humiliating 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Tosofichajes claims that former Manchester City and West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini is on borrowed time at Betis, and that Setien is identified as the most viable replacement should he fire the Chilean.

Troubled Betis have lost seven of their 11 La Liga games so far this season and also sent 23 goals in the Spanish top flight.

In a recent interview with COPE, Setien confirmed that he would sue his former employers for breach of his contract.

“In my case, Quique Setién, it is public and well known that on August 17 both the club and the president announced my dismissal with immediate effect,” he said in an official statement.

“However, it was not until yesterday, September 16 (a month later), when they sent me, for the first time, the written communication of said dismissal [without any settlement].

“They have not compensated me, nor have they offered me anything.

“They haven’t even called me to tell me I’m being fired.”
