The qualifying groups for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar were drawn on Monday evening. Luxembourg faces Portugal, Serbia, Ireland and Azerbaijan in Group A.

Portugal, Serbia, Ireland and Azerbaijan are the opponents of the Luxembourg national team in the World Cup qualification. At the UEFA headquarters in Zurich, the FLF selection was drawn to Group A on Monday evening. The wish for a group of six, in which Luc Holtz’s team would have had to deal with two weaker opponents, was therefore not fulfilled.

Luxembourg, this time in pot four, is only faced with a weaker opponent in group A of five: As in the Nations League, the national team will meet Azerbaijan again. Meanwhile, the FLF selection is also expecting a great opponent: Laurent Jans and Co. will face European champions Portugal from lottery one. The Luxembourgers already met the team around superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the last European Championship qualification, at that time they lost 3-0 and 2-0.

The qualifiers will be played between March and November 2021.
