The Grouping of Health Centers (ACES) of the Middle Tejo registered 27 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, with the same ones being registered in Torres Novas (+8), Ourém (+4), Tomar (+ 4), Entroncamento (+4), Abrantes (+2), Alcanena (+2), Mação (+1), Ferreira do Zêzere (+1), Sardoal (+1), and Mação (+1). There are another 402 people reported to have recovered from the disease and two more deaths in Alcanena, linked to the outbreak that is taking place in a Home in Minde. Gavião also has one more death, on a day when Portugal surpassed the 5,000 deaths related to the covid-19 pandemic.

The Public Health Delegate of the Grouping of Health Centers (ACES) of the Middle Tejo, Maria dos Anjos Esperança, reported on Sunday the evolution of the number of deaths to 89 (today 91) and which result from an update of the numbers in the region. Today there are two more deaths to mourn in Minde, Alcanena. The deaths are essentially related to the outbreaks in homes in Alcanena, Abrantes, Ourém and Tomar, and this is mainly the result of this increase in the number of deaths in the Middle Tejo, according to the official.

Abrantes is the municipality with the highest mortality rate, with a total of 24 deaths, followed by Alcanena, with 20, and Torres Novas, with 13. Ourém has recorded 10 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, and Entroncamento and Tomar add up to 9. There are still a total of six (6) deaths divided by the municipalities of Constância, Sardoal, Mação, Ferreira do Zêzere and Vila Nova da Barquinha, all of which were less than three (3) deaths, said Maria dos Anjos Esperança.

The lethality rate in the ACES Médio Tejo region is currently 2.7%, being higher than the national average (1.6%) and that of the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo ARS (1.6%).

In the 11 counties in the region, with a total of 3400 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, Ourém registers 864 confirmed infections (+4), followed by Tomar 524 (+4), Abrantes with 503 (+2), Torres Novas with 472 (+8), Entroncamento, with 385 (+4), Alcanena, with 343 (+2), Mação, with 86 (+1), Vila Nova da Barquinha, with 63, Sardoal, with 61 (+1), Constância , with 52, and Ferreira do Zêzere, with 47 accumulated cases (+1).

Today, ACES Médio Tejo has 541 people under active surveillance (-53). Tomar has 133 citizens in this condition, followed by Ourém (118), Torres Novas (78), Abrantes (61), Entroncamento (58), Vila Nova da Barquinha (40), Alcanena (33), Mação (12), Ferreira do Zêzere (4), Constância (2) and Sardoal (2).

ACES Médio Tejo records an accumulated total of 3400 infected people (+27), 2165 recovered (+402), 541 people under active surveillance (-53) and 91 deaths (+2).

Sertã has a total of 111 cases and Vila de Rei with 9 since the beginning of the pandemic

At ACES do Pinhal Interior Sul (PIS), the municipality of Sertã today has an accumulated total of 111 infected people, of which 85 recovered from the disease (+5), according to ACES PIS. Sertã has 26 active cases and 85 people under surveillance.

Vila de Rei, in turn, has had a total of 9 cases of infection since the beginning of the pandemic, two of which are still active and seven people have recovered, according to ACES PIS. Today there are 6 people under active surveillance in this municipality.

Middle Tejo Region with a total of 3520 confirmed cases in the 13 municipalities

With about 250 thousand inhabitants, the 13 municipalities of the Middle Tejo add up to a total of 3520 cases (+27) confirmed of infection by the new coronavirus, of which 3400 in ACES Médio Tejo and 120 in ACES Pinhal Interior Sul (111 in Sertã and 9 in Vila de Rei). There are a total of 2257 people recovered (2165 in ACES Médio Tejo, 85 in Sertã and 7 in Vila de Rei (ACES PIS) and 91 deaths.

O ACES Medium Tejo covers the territorial area of ​​11 municipalities with approximately 235 thousand users, and covers the health units of Abrantes, Alcanena, Constância, Entroncamento, Ferreira do Zêzere, Mação, Ourém, Sardoal, Tomar, Torres Novas and Vila nova da Barquinha, in a territorial area of ​​2,706.10 km’s square.

The municipalities of Sertã and Vila de Rei are part of the Intermunicipal Community (CIM) of the Middle Tejo in the political-administrative division, but in terms of Health they are linked to the ACES do Pinhal Interior Sul (PIS) which also covers the municipalities of Proença-a-Nova and Oleiros, in a total of about 30 thousand users.

There is a death to regret. Ponte de Sor will join the list of municipalities with a ‘moderate risk’ of transmission of covid-19, thus falling from the ‘high risk’ level at which it was found.

Gavião, in turn, today has an accumulated total of 63 covid cases, of which 17 people recovered from the disease. There are two deaths to regret (+1). An outbreak in the Santa Casa home is worrying health officials, with at least 20 users and 16 positive employees confirmed. There are 44 active cases in the county. Gavião joins on Wednesday the list of municipalities with ‘extremely high risk’ of transmission of covid-19, the maximum level and subject to the most restrictive measures.

Lezíria Region with 4072 cases and 102 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic

Lezíria do Tejo today presents 18 new cases, 13 recovered patients and an accumulated total of 4072 patients, of which 1423 cases in the municipality of Santarém, according to the Regional Network. Chamusca has a total of 184 confirmed cases, including five deaths, and Golegã records 69 infections and two deaths.

The Lezíria region has 102 deaths, 36 of which in Santarém, and 3434 people recovered from the disease.

The district of Santarém has an accumulated total of 7472 confirmed cases of disease (4072 in Lezíria do Tejo and 3400 in ACES Médio Tejo), and a total of 193 deaths (102 in Lezíria and 91 in ACES Médio Tejo). Lezíria has a total of 3434 recovered and ACES Médio Tejo has 2165, which gives a total of 5599 people recovered from the disease.

Portugal exceeds five thousand deaths

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age. Of the total fatalities, 2,640 were men and 2,401 women. The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

The country has been in a state of emergency since November 9 and until December 23, a period during which there is a mandatory curfew in counties with the highest risk of contagion.
