New York is always doing more for bikes! The New York City Department of Transportation announced the construction of 10 miles of additional bike lanes in Manhattan. Areas that will be protected from automobile traffic, in order to avoid any risk of accident. Among the new routes of interest to New Yorkers and tourists alike, there will first be an extension of the bike path along 8th Avenue (Central Park West). A good way to walk along Central Park and down to Times Square. You’ll also be able to cross Midtown effortlessly, with a new route that will cross Manhattan across the width.
More than 45 km of cycle paths to open in New York this year
South Manhattan will also host new protected cycle paths, with a route that will link the World Trade Center to Battery Park. You can then continue on the existing cycle paths, along the Hudson River or along the East River. And that’s just the start: New York City Hall has promised to open another 30 kilometers of bike lanes in Manhattan this year. New York is not yet Amsterdam but the trend is there!
