“She died at home. I don’t know if there was any disease behind it. The last time I saw her was in the summer, when she was celebrating 109 years,” the mayor said. She had seen Holíková for the last 14 years. “She didn’t grow old on her face. She always said such a sentence: God forgot me here,” Ježková recalled.

Marie Holíková saw and heard worse, she was just lying down. According to the mayor, however, she was interested in what was happening around her. In July, during her congratulations, the mayor stated that Holíková was interested in covid, for example, and remembered how she had to wear a veil even as a child due to infection. According to her, the oldest citizen was then interested in other events, such as Brexit.

“Until June, she was watching TV and listening to the news. But since July, she has been saying that she talks to her too fast on TV and radio,” the mayor said at the time.

Marie Holíková was born on July 15, 1911 in Blížkovice as the eldest of three siblings Maria and František Zuhl. After school she worked in agriculture. In 1937, she married Jan Holík, whose parents handed them over the farm. She has devoted her whole life to this. She gave birth to two sons, she has four granddaughters, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
