The mammography service is a cornerstone in the timely diagnosis of breast cancer, and the Hospital General Regional (HGR) No. 1 “Vicente Guerrero” of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Acapulco, has a radiology team of high technology, one of a kind in Guerrero.
Blanca Azucena Javier Palma, radiologist with a subspecialty in interventional mammary radiology at HGR No. 1, explained that in each study she projects four radiological images of the breasts, in order to detect breast cancer early.
He indicated that the team consists of high-resolution monitors, sonography equipment, which allow better image quality, real-time image display and multi-dimensional reconstructions.
“Today we have a very avant-garde, modern equipment with digitized technique, which has only been with us for a year, it is a completely new installation,” he explained.
He highlighted that daily between 10 and 15 studies of patients sent from Family Medicine Units (UMF) and IMSS hospitals throughout the entity are carried out.
The specialist insisted on the call to women, to approach health personnel and reinforce prevention methods, such as breast self-examination, clinical examination, ultrasound and mammograms, in order to detect any abnormality in time and start treatment more suitable.
