In his long football career, Frank de Boer and Orange faced several times against Turkey, Norway and Latvia. A few of those confrontations went into the history books:
23 september 1992 – Shortly after the European Championship in 1992, in which the Orange lost to Denmark in the semi-finals after penalty kicks, the Netherlands must visit Oslo for the World Cup qualification. In those years, Norway is a modest, but very disciplined fighting machine under football professor Egil Olsen. Still, the 2-1 defeat of Orange, in which De Boer ushered in the second Norwegian goal with a mistake, hit like a bomb.
2 april 1997 – The Netherlands is 1-0 behind in the World Cup qualifying match with Turkey in Bursa when the Orange gets a penalty. Wim Jonk is the first person to take it, but he refuses. Captain Frank de Boer is second in line. He hesitates. Then Clarence Seedorf, the man who missed at the European Championship against France a year earlier. Seedorf shoots high. Orange loses.
23 June 2004 – After the substitution of Arjen Robben against the Czech Republic and the subsequent defeat, the Orange has to beat Latvia to survive the group stage of the 2004 European Championship. Frank de Boer is no longer a basic player in his last final tournament, but he will play against Latvia. The Orange wins 3-0 and takes over the quarter-final against Sweden with their heels. Against the Swedes, De Boer starts the match again, but is soon left injured.
